St.John's Wood Walk Blog

Known for Abbey Road Studios and Lords Cricket Ground. A recent Coddiwomple around St.John's Wood took me to some of the areas more hidden locations. I'll write about the three places that stood out the most, all of which I've passed many times over the years having lived nearby.

The first location of interest is the Cabmen's Cabin which is by the entrance of the park. The green wooden cabin is one of only thirteen left in London. Now listed, and still serving tea, coffee and snacks.

Marlborough Road, one of London's lost tube stations is the second stop of this walk. It's located on Finchley Road and fascinating to see the old building still there. If you are ever on the Jubilee or Metropolitan line keep an eye out for a section of the platform that still remains between St.John's Wood and Swiss Cottage.

The last point of interest for this blog, is the 'Gothic House' which was once home to a clergyman named John Hugh Smith-Pogott whose congregation believed him to be Christ. The poet John Betjeman said the house possessed a threatening and restless atmosphere where one might feel constantly watched. Nonetheless a beautiful unique home sitting between the typical big villas of the area.
